This review is about our visit to Mongkok Dim Sum East Coast.

Green Beans had a hair appointment at a salon in the nearby Joo Chiat Road and we arranged to meet for dinner after that. We were deciding between NineThirty by Awfully Chocolate and Mongkok Dim Sum; ended up here because there was a queue for table at the former.

Entrance to Mongkok Dim Sum East Coast

Despite being the only dim sum place along East Coast Road for the time being (I12 used to have a Tim Ho Wan), it wasn’t crowded on an early Saturday evening. Guess dim sum is more of a breakfast / brunch / lunch food?

Funnily I ran into my ex-colleague who was having dinner with her friend at the same time.

Menu of Mongkok Dim Sum

Both of us were familiar with its menu since we’ve been there several times.

There were two laminated A3 sheets; one was entirely on dim sum items and drinks.

The second sheet were zichar items, which were all pretty reasonably priced.

Food in Mongkok Dim Sum

We ordered our usual dim sum favourites as well as a plate of beef horfun from the zichar menu.

All the dishes arrived almost at the same time and we made sure that we took the photos before digging in.

The style of the beef horfun was probably inspired by the one from Geylang Lor 9, with plenty of gravy and tender beef slices.

Pan-fried carrot cake was another favourite and I especially loved the charred bits.

I always enjoy having har gow or shrimp dumpling while Green Beans wasn’t as big a fan.

There were several different choice of fillings for chee cheong fun or rice noodle roll. Since many of the items already had prawns, we opted for char siew.

Final item was fried beancurd roll. Yummy as usual.

Final Words

While Mongkok Dim Sum definitely doesn’t the finest of dim sums, it’s a good solid option if you are in the area craving for some dim sum. Perhaps we could return some day to try out more of their zichar items as well.
