I first heard about Rakuya from Green Beans’ cousin who mentioned about his experience when he knew of our little #FEastCoastRoad project. Hence we decided to visit it for lunch on a Saturday afternoon.

Decor in Rakuya

Upon entry, we were met by an unused bar area with pretty murals on both sides of wall.

The front staff ushered us to the dining area located behind the curtain after the standard temperature-taking and checking of safe-entry confirmation. We didn’t book in advance and luckily there was space for us.

Due to safe distancing measures, they could only accommodate around 14 pax. The seats were all filled up at one point while we were there.

There was a plastic holder for face mask with Rakuya branding. I thought that it was pretty smart of them since it’s mandatory to wear a face mask outside at the moment.

Rakuya’s Menu

Rakuya offers very affordable set lunches with prices ranging from 15 SGD to 32 SGD.

It is also possible for customers to go for the pricier omakase options.

After some deliberation, I chose the sashimi set while Green Beans went for Hamachi Sesame.

Food in Rakuya

Green Beans’ hamachi sesame set was served first.

Close-up on yellowtail, which was at room temperature. Hence, Green Beans was disappointed as she expected the fish to be served chilled. Perhaps it was due to the heat from the cooked rice.

Each set came with chawanmushi, topped up with fish roe and a pea.

My sashimi set also arrived.

As you could tell, the sashimi portion wasn’t huge. I couldn’t complain much though as the price of the set lunch was really reasonable.

Salad and melon were also included with the meal

Final Words

While there’s nothing that went terribly wrong, the meal turned out to be not as satisfying as I had hoped for. The price is really reasonable but I would gladly pay a little more for bigger portion of sashimi.
